Electric Rates

Current Electric Rates

As a non-profit, municipal electric utility, we do everything we can to keep our electric rates as low as possible while providing the reliable service our customers want and expect. After conducting analysis of our costs and revenue and input by the Utility Advisory Committee, City Council approved an 8% rate increase at its March 19, 2019 meeting for all customer classes. The new rates will be effective June 1, 2019, with the first utility bill that customers receive in June and applied to all electrical services for the billing period.

Even with this rate increase, Richland Energy Services (RES) rates will remain some of the lowest in Washington.

Rates are primarily determined by wholesale power costs, which is the utility’s most significant operating cost, comprising over 60% of RES’ expenses.
